A Visit to the Mountains

I just returned from a trip to the North Carolina mountains.  I needed to get back into nature, breathe the fresh mountain air, and see the beautiful autumn leaves.  There really is something about stopping the hustle and bustle of life for just a day or two as a means of renewing one's mind, body, and spirit.

It can be so easy to get caught up in the politics, headlines, and stress of day-to-day living,  Some days it seems like I wake up, go to work, and fall into bed exhausted....all the while wondering what it is for.  Getting away from it all puts it into perspective.  Taking a deep breath and just allowing oneself to be still in the beauty of God's nature feels almost like being born again.

Watching the sunset over the mountains as the sky changes from blue to pink to bright shades of orange, yellow, and red.....hearing the rush of a waterfall or the trickle of a mountain stream....and watching a myriad of leaves falling all around me in a kaleidoscope of color all helped to relax me and prepare me for another week at work and the challenges of daily living.

I encourage everyone to take the time to get back into nature on a regular basis...even if it is only for a few hours a week.  It really can bring a peace to your life, and help you realize that any problem you have is small and never too big for the One who created this beautiful world.

It isn't by mistake that my upcoming book, "Alone in the Crowd" is set in the North Carolina mountains.  It is where I grew up and have some of my fondest memories.
